Congratulations to Emma Hagan on being named one of the Students of the Week for Dec. 9th by Ms. Avery. I have had the joy of having Emma as a student and as an athlete. Along with softball and school, Emma also works at Clarendale Senior Living a few days a week. I love that she is able to share her thoughtfulness, positivity and kindness in the classroom, on the field, and at her job. Inside of the classroom, Emma works very hard to stay on top of her studies; she advocates for herself and independently spends time outside of class catching up on whatever she may have missed. She is kind to everyone she meets and always has a smile on her face. It is refreshing seeing a leader like Emma that makes a difference in any setting with her positive attitude and hard work.

Congratulations to Derrick Glenn on being named one of our Students of the Week for December 9th by Ms. Weigelt-Ferguson. Derrick Glenn is one of those students who do everything right, work in the background to support their teammates, classmates and friends and don’t really want that recognition and the lime light. Derrick has been my student for the last three years and it has been a joy to have him in class. He is respectful and hardworking. He gets his work done. He works well alone and in groups and is always willing to take the risk and to put himself out there, even when we learn something new and the opportunity for making mistakes are high! Derrick does the same on the football field. He is a team player, showing up to practices, supporting his team mates and having fun playing the game. He is also a valuable member of choir and has performed on stage in several plays/ musicals. Derrick is well-rounded and has so many talents and interests that have shown East High in a bright and positive light. He has represented our school well in so many different avenues and I believe he deserves a shout out for his commitment to his academic success and our school community. I am very proud to be Derrick’s teacher.

Congratulations to Robin Ricehouse on being named one of the Students of the Week for November 18th. Mrs. Bono is excited to nominate Robin as Student of the Week! As a freshman, Robin has shown remarkable academic dedication, excelling in Algebra 1, where her natural brightness and curiosity are apparent each day. At first, Robin was a bit hard to read, but as the weeks have gone by, she has opened up, and I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know her even better. In our Advisory class, Robin’s personality shines through even more. She actively participates in our PPI lessons on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, showing a keen interest in personal growth and applying these habits in her daily life. During Advisory, she’s more awake and engaged, often sharing insights and happily chatting with her classmates. It’s rewarding to see her in both settings, as each highlights a different side of her strengths. Robin’s energy, openness, and commitment to learning make her a fantastic candidate for Student of the Week. #LionPride

East High raised $1240 for No Hunger Holidays which allowed us to purchase 86 turkeys to donate. Thank you staff, students, and families for your donations to help local families during the holidays! #LionPride

Congratulations to Lane Callis on being named one of the Students of the Week for November 18th. Ms. Bailey states: Lane is such a joy to have in English 1! His work ethic and intelligence make him a good student, but his humor and kindness make him a stellar human being. Lane is easily one of the funniest people I know, and his ability to make his teachers and peers laugh has been an invaluable asset to our classroom. He is witty and quick while still maintaining empathy and kindness towards others. For some that can be tough to balance, but Lane is a pro. His contributions to classroom discussions highlight different perspectives and ideas. His ability to include others and make learning fun has made such a difference in class. Despite trying to start a fight club in room 411 every afternoon :), Lane is a rockstar and deserves to be recognized! #LionPride

Congratulations to Tyler Borger on being named one of the Students of the Week for November 18th. Tyler's teacher reports: Tyler Borger is a phenomenal student! He is a peer mentor in one of my classes and I am SO thankful for him. He is always walking around the class and does a wonderful job of noticing where his help is needed. I never have to ask Tyler to do something because by the time I turn around to ask him he is already doing it. The students in the class look up to him and enjoy talking to him daily. He truly brightens the room and is amazing! I have been told by many adults how lucky our students are to have him in the room and I completely agree! He is truly amazing and has a heart of gold. #LionPride

Congratulations to Jaylynn on being named one of the FZE Students of the Week for November 11th. Mrs. Petry says Jay has continued to grow throughout his time at East High. He is currently in his second year at Lewis and Clark as part of the ARBS program. This year, Jay was selected to be an Ambassador for the program. As an ambassador, he gives tours and presentations to students who are interested in the program. Jay took it to the next level and had the amazing opportunity to presenting to admin. During an admin breakfast at Lewis and Clark, Jay took the admin on a tour and presented to them about the program! Jay has shown tremendous growth in his communication skills! I am so beyond proud of Jay and cannot wait to see what his future holds!

Congratulations to Scarlet Rice on being named one of the FZE Students of the Week for Nov. 11th. Ms. Stowers states: This week, I am proud to recognize a truly inspiring student, Scarlet Rice. Despite facing the challenges of transferring, as a senior, to East this year from the DSW area, and overcoming significant health setbacks that impacted her academic progress, she has shown remarkable perseverance. Not only has she caught up on her schoolwork from her absences, but she is also beginning to excel, demonstrating her incredible work ethic and determination. Her kindness shines in everything she does and she brings a positive spirit to our classrooms. Students like Scarlet remind me of the power of resilience and the impact of a caring heart. I am so lucky to have her in Principles of Biomedical Science this year!

Congratulations to Leeper on being named one of the Students of the Week for Nov. 11th. Ms. Ferguson reports: Leeper is an amazing addition to the East High family this year! Leeper is a student who is willing to stand up for what they believe, advocate for themselves and other students, and demonstrate true openness and tolerance toward everyone. Leeper is a member of GSA here at East and is a proud supporter/advocate of LGBTQIA+ rights within our community. Leeper demonstrates true acceptance for all students they meet and interact with here at East. Leeper is willing to strike up a conversation with anyone, ask questions to get to know them, and truly show how much they care for everyone in this community. Those friendly gestures and conversations can really help to turn someone's day around. Leeper also reaches out to connect with teachers. On a daily basis they will approach me and ask how my day is going and genuinely share bits about their life with me also. Leeper is confident in the classroom, is always willing to speak up in discussion, but also is willing to help lift other students up as well! Beyond the classroom, Leeper is involved in a community volleyball team. Also Leeper is an amazing artist! They often draw cute characters on my board at the end of class on Friday I love having Leeper in my class and seeing a student who truly cares about others and has a creative mind! I can't wait to see all Leeper accomplishes in their time here at East!

It’s a beautiful day when high school students mentor our littles! The East High Enterprise class worked with students at Hawthorn on Friday, delivering lunches to teachers. Enterprise students have been running the East Side Eatery, taking and fulfilling orders for teacher lunches at the high school. This year they have expanded what they do to include mentoring of elementary school students, who are helping with deliveries at their school. Together they are building foundational skills for work and life! #FZEquipToExcel

Congratulations to Layla Southards on being named one of the Students of the Week for October 21st. Layla has been an outstanding student in my 3rd hour Credit Recovery Launch class. She has a great attitude and is always positive. Her work ethic and positivity is a great example to other students in the class and her work completion shows it. She has already completed 1 Launch class and is on pace to finish 2 more before the end of the semester. Great job Layla!
