About Me . . .

My name is Mrs. DeLaney and I am the School Counselor here at Flint Hill Elementary.  I have been in the Fort Zumwalt School District for 26 years. Before becoming a counselor, I was a Kindergarten teacher in another state.  I’m married and have 2 daughters; one is currently attending Northwest Missouri State. My other daughter is working on her master’s degree with Florida State, and is soon to be married.  I have two of the best dogs ever living with us, well most of the time.

What Does a School Counselor Do?

My door is always open for student and parents.  You can find me in Room 2. All visits are confidential as directed by the ethics of the American School Counselor Assoc.  I also go into classrooms and deliver lessons on the following: *Understanding myself and others
*Learning to take tests, study, and set goals
*Learning to make good decisions
*Getting along with others and coping with personal problems
*Learning about the world of work

I also offer small groups or individual counseling to students.  The topics that we focus our goals are: Divorce, social skills, self-esteem, self-regulation, feelings, friendships, self-control, and anxiety.   The groups will meet for 30 minutes during the school day and last for eight to ten weeks. Individual counseling is very similar to groups but information is delivered in a one to one setting.  In addition, I help families in need or crisis.  The need or crisis could be financial, personal, or emotional or all three, but together we can work through it!  I can help look for resources for find the appropriate agencies to assist. There is no mountain too big.

If you are wondering about special education testing, accelerated education testing, or a 504, I would be the person that initiates that process.  If interested please call or email me for an appointment.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at my email address or call Flint Hill Elementary.
