About Me . . .

I was born and raised in our state capital of Missouri, Jefferson City. It's a traditional town set picturesquely on the Missouri River. I graduated from Jefferson City High School, where I was a member of the marching band for all four years.

I then attended college at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, where I earned my BSEd. in Elementary Education (1-6), and a specialty in Instructional Technology. While I worked as a paraprofessional after undergraduate school, I continued my education, and earned a MEd. in Guidance and Counseling (K-8) from Lincoln University as well.

My teaching career began at Pioneer Trail Elementary School in Jefferson City (JCPS/JCSD). I finished my first year there before packing up, and leaving my hometown to begin again at Twin Chimneys Elementary School in O'Fallon (FZSD) where I taught fifth grade.

My husband, Chuck, and I live in Creve Coeur with our dog Cody. Cody retired, after five years, from being a Therapy Dog with Therapy Dogs International, but he still loves kids, long walks, chasing squirrels, and treats!

During the spring of 2020 we welcomed our first child into the world, Allen! He likes eating, being held, and long stroller walks around the neighborhood. We are very excited (and tired) new parents!

I love to spend my time with Chuck, Allen, Cody, our families, and friends! I stay healthy and active, as I encourage you all to do, by walking with Allen and Cody, lifting weights, and running! In any free time I find I'll read, bake, help with home improvements, or create new ones.

I'm so excited to join FHE this year as your school counselor! We'll navigate this new school year the best that we can, the best way we know how, TOGETHER!

What Does a School Counselor Do?

My door/virtual office (on Canvas) is always open.  You can find me in Room 2!  All visits are confidential as directed by the ethics of the American School Counselor Assoc.  I also visit classrooms and deliver lessons on the following:
*Understanding Myself & Others *Learning How to Make Good Decisions *Getting Along With Others and Coping With Personal Problems *Learning to Take Tests, Study, and Set Goals *Learning About the World of Work
I also offer small groups or individual counseling to students.  The topics that we focus our goals are: divorce, social skills, self-esteem, self-regulation, feelings, friendships, self-control, and anxiety.   The groups will meet for 30 minutes during the school day and last for eight to ten weeks.  Individual counseling is very similar to groups but information is delivered in a one to one setting. (All of this might look slightly different this year depending on space available to social distance for small groups.)
In addition, I help families in need or crisis.  The need or crisis could be financial, personal, or emotional or all three, but together we can work through it!  I can help look for resources to find the appropriate agencies to assist.  There is no mountain too big.
If you are wondering about special education testing, accelerated education testing, or a 504, I would be the person that initiates that process.  If interested please call or email me for an appointment.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at my email address or call Flint Hill Elementary.
